Prototype of step by step instruction for YouTube Remix option

I got behind with the OLDS MOOC last week and am finding ways to catch up. I still want to follow up on the project for social video production. I am finding it hard to think about design phases without getting feedback on how learning works out. Also I get some comment from the Wild Show and people around Phonic FM. there is some interest in video and in this Remix option on YouTube.

So eventually there could be an animation video with a very detailed description of how to select the Creative Commons option on YouTube. This is just a set of screenshots to show the outline and ask a few people if it is enough to explain.

From your list of videos, select the Edit Button to get the Edit Page where you can change the description, title, and the options.

On the Edit Page, click on Advanced Settings to get the page with the extra options.

Make sure the Creative Commons option is selected, not the standard YouTube licence.

The Remix button appears. So if there is another camera angle on this performance then there could be an edit.

There will be some background on Creative Commons in the Posterous blog

SceneChat test with Interview template re copyright and digital content

I am on a Beta for SceneChat. Comments can be sent to other social media from video sites. Currently this seems to mean YouTube, Blogger and Facebook at least these are working for me.

So far the comments works ok so I am adding this post to ask for current views on this video from the cathedral projection last year. It covers digital media, copyright, and possible links to other events. Social media has changed over the time and copyright policy may change further.

If comments bar fails, please add comment to blog anyway.

ITV moving in the right direction #enviromental #animatedexeter2012

I very much support the decdision by ITV Regional to load up a clip from Evolumental to YouTube.

But the problem I think is that they only make available content that has been broadcast. So this is not the whole ten minutes. Also it turned out that the timing of a live broadcast diod not coincide with the best bits in the background in my honest opinion.

The BBC have similar policies I think. Could they relax this a bit so they stay to get the whole thing and then load it to YouTube or somewhere? A couple of years ago there was an ITV crew in the Anchor Gardens during Sidmouth Folk Week for most of an afternoon. Working hard on music video but I don't think more than a minute or two got on the TV. So what to do with all this stuff?

Social media were discouraged from posting anything from the Wednesday tests that would possibly compete with TV exclusivity. I'm not sure YouTube audiences are yet a problem for propertelly. And besides there could be more of a mix that actually helped the broadcast. There are some decent cameras in Exeter. Can we have a bit of a discussion on what else might be possible?

Video of Evolumental could try out comments

This is one take for a video on Evolumental. There could be an edit with other material but this wass loaded as one take to encourage more people to visit Exeter cathedral this Saturday evening, today is your last chance to view the actual event.

I am leaving lots of space as this blog should now work with SceneChat. Please add comments anyway. Could include a link to a better shot, better sound, or any sort of giuidance. By the way if you actually understand layers please put some time aside. I am gradually finding out but most of my edita are fairly random as it turns out.

Bitropolis a catchup, just missed Bitfilms

What with Online Information last week I missed out on Bitfilms but some of the content is now turning up.

The trailer

and on YouTube

Thing is, this three years old I think. Why is there not more from Twinity? I still think this could work as linking other bits of video.

More later. I hope to find a lot that could fit with Animated Exeter.

Green Man arrives in Exeter, video on YouTube

Following Isca Obscura I was interested in the Green Man reported as part of a Phonic radio show this Monday. Maybe not strictly animation but there may be various ways to use the content. I found that Phonic FM fades in and out quite a lot so I missed all the sighting reports and only met the Green Man when he reached the city centre, near the Castle. I was able to interview Francis Ives who had followed the green man since about five in the morning. So these clips cover the first glimpse, three interviews and the cathedral where the Green Man eventually appeared,

You can skip interview three, nothing much added to the story, but it links back to Phonic FM studio.

Digital Music Video - an update

Talk now notes around a meeting so becoming clearer what the emphasis is on.

Links to Rougemont Global Broadcasting, Exeter TV, local video. The output will be in forms suitable for TV and related social media.

Starts with comparing early computer animation and the demoscene. "Visual Music" is best available general term.

Landings at Spacex is a digital reference. Each video has signs of digital processing. The Animate Projects at Phoenix is closer to the illustration, book page tradition. Spacex better reference for music video.

Demoscene includes live performance - Xerxes found on YouTube and longer AVI on CD to be distributed during Animated Exeter. Visual Music includes mix of visuals and music, also on CD.

Video dj VJ , content found online also Flickr from Benny Ben clearly Creative Commons

Virtual worlds now included. Twinity design is just like Princesshay. Dance much easier virtually than a make over for Bedford Square.

Talk now for a Creative Tuesday - Animated Exeter continues

The talk that was cancelled is now for Creative Tuesday, a new series in the Black Box organised by Phoenix Digital. Within the next few months, details in the next printed Phoenix guide.

This might work out better. I can still develop some points during Animated Exeter over the next few weeks.

Main conclusion from Landings at Phoenix is that the size of a TV screen is probably the intended scale of most media. Nothing wrong with a gallery choosing a larger scale but my own direction is to end up with content that can be combined for TV. TV now includes related social media or versions.

I have invested in a Toshiba camera with a speaker as well as a better screen than the Kodak Zi8. so it may work for playback. I am trying to transfer some other stuff so could try out the entire talk in one lift journey.

Spacex Landings is a test case in online access

The second Review Group is tomorrow night at Spacex. During the first one I discovered that the Animate Projects content is mostly online already. I have found a couple of links.

13

Without You

So have a look if you are not able to visit the actual Spacex. I don't think it will dissuade anyone from making the journey. Without You is on a reasonably sized screen and the other two are projected on large scale. Then there are the books. No hot chocolate as during the snow but then it is getting warmer.

Meanwhile Google offers a digital take on gallery content. As reported in the Observer-

The gallery directors involved in the project are of course confident that the online versions of their collections will extend curiosity rather than satisfying it; that the art project will act as an advertisement for those who can get to the galleries.

One can only assume that the museums not involved – the Louvre in Paris and the Prado in Madrid, for example – are less sure of that equation. As always, with the digitisation of culture, the answer will not be long in coming.

I think that for digital video a mix of online and galleries could work quite well. It seems a natural progression and allows social media to build around this base.

copy for 2011

I have now sent in the text for 2011

Will's Wonderful World of Digital Music Video

Sat 19th Feb 2-4pm Imaginary Lounge Phoenix

Visual music continues as computer animation, comparable to the demoscene. Sundown ended in 2010 but something continues in Silesia and on YouTube. Can compositing work with consumer software to enhance social media and music video? Sound engineering may be the largest remaining issue. Can content be identified that would blend with VJs Beatz and Bobz?

http://silesiaparty.pl/en_competitions.php

The deadline was "before Christmas" so I guess this is ok for the website. Only ten tickets, free but you have to book.

So, much the same as last year to start with. Any content welcome that could be shown. VJs the same day. Also Polish food at the Phoenix.

I may try to do a PDF file based on the content. Flash video is working ok with X.

previously, this came from the basement to the bar via Second Life. No direct cable, trrust me I was there and I am a blogger.

not much of a mix yet, online and specific venue. edit later maybe? is live streaming that important?

Pyrates business model still a mystery

Last summer I managed to interview Jo Gedrych about the business model for the Pyrates.

The summer is about to arrive so I will ask the question again. The Pyrates are still putting up much stuff on YouTube. I think this is the time of year for it, ahead of some new performances. but have they led us all astray? Is there any way this free stuff on the web can continue?

audio boo test

Social Media is everywhere. Well, you just have to look for it. Phoenix Digital have a course coming up. This will include Audioboo, something I had never heard of. The site seems to assume you have an iPhone. But a bit of checking out the blog reveals a test of just uploading a file through a browser. So here is a short extract from the New Exeter Radio Show from last Friday. In theory there could be less delay. The New Exeter Radio Show will probably carry on with Traydio. This is getting quite complicated. I have to keep subscribing to something new.

The Employees - Kate Russo-copyright issues

The Analogue2Digital event took up most of the Phoenix. One gallery closed but the others in use. As well as one glass case for The Employees,by Kate Russo. this looks pixelated but is actually painted. A series of related designs as business cards. I am not sure what to do with the photos. Usually the Phoenix is not keen on artwork being photographed. I did a circle shot round most of the bar etc. One version includes the Employees.

It would be good to include some visual art in a record of a music trade event. I thought the visual music aspects of animation could lead into Vibraphonic graphics. But the galleries just seem to have backed off a bit. The pixels however fit really well with the look of the Tenori-On. I will check out what can be done. Meanwhile there is one picture in the current Phoenix brochure and several on the website.

Analogue to Digital - #a2d10

So far the tag - #a2d10 - is only working for me. Can't find much else. But I think it is suitable and can't find another. Suggest #vgcs10 for the Vintage Guitars and Classic Synths coming up in a couple of months. Twitter reveals there is nothing on this at the moment.

The Tenori-On is the link for music technology and animation.

Kat Marsh tried out four mikes in the Sound Gallery basement. There are more clips to come later. Also the sound recording exists so there may be better sound.

From the Phoenix bar.

Also photos on Flickr.

There were issues raised about including people in the photos so some may vanish, then again some may be added.

I missed the Bladerunner sessions. Any links welcome.

Carl Munson and the Pocket Calculator

I thought he might play something from Talking Book but it turns out that the selected tune ahead of Analog2digital is Pocket Calculator by Kraftwerk

The New Exeter Radio show closed with this. Wheely Saying Something went with Talking Book but I'm not sure which track.

Kraftwerk is a good choice for the video approach. In this case nothing gets in the way of the stage and the cameras are each working ok. However in the Phoenix bar with the sort of kit I use there could be duff bits of tape or the staff walking about with plates of food. Now, don't get me wrong. Food in a bar is a good thing and a few glitches in a video is not a disaster. But if you happen to have the background video as well as the performance it may be easier to cover up the gaps. From previous discussions about this it has been suggested that layered video is a more positive description. So some editors could do this. I'm still looking at ways to cover up bodges.

More later on the New Exeter Radio Show. Conversation continues.

Talking Book on Wheely Saying Something

They played something from Talking Book on Phonic FM this morning but I am not sure which track. Story so far is that i am trying to make some connections with digital music ahead of Analog2digital on Saturday. You can't hear the actual broadcast in the studio and I think there is something wrong with the track listing somehow.

From a prpared list the Dr Who theme came up when the intended track was I love your Smile by Shanice

So maybe blogs with links could be more reliable than live radio. Not as interesting though.

Forunately Carl Munson visited and has taken the Talking Book CD. Probably he will have sorted the issues by tomorrow morning and will know which track he is playing.
